Storage

On Farm storage

Quality is our Focus

DD Kaylock and Co annually crop 4000 ha of mixed grain in from our dryland and irrigation paddocks. Our cropping mix includes: wheat, barley, oats, canola, peas, lentils and safflower.

Attention is given to all aspects of the crop growth, paddock selection, cleaning of seed, machinery clean down and preparation, to avoid in house contamination of crops, resulting in a clean, pure, finished product.

To ensure the lasting quality of our grain and consistency of supply to our customers, we store this grain on-farm in steel upright silos. We take pride in finding the best grain to store.  The best grain for storage is taken before any rain events, from the highest yielding paddocks and standing crop.

Storing grain on farm is often not done well, resulting in mouldy grain and insect infestation. If simple rules are adhered too, grain can be stored without risk.

DD Kaylock have their grain quality tested during harvest, recording grade, moisture content, protein, screenings and test weight. These results can be provided on request. Our grain is fumigated following best practice recommendations, ensuring that pests are controlled but no chemical residues remain when the product is delivered. Grain is stored below 12.5% moisture to maintain quality and further protect from insect damage.

Before it arrives at your door, the harvested grain is cleaned on farm, removing trash, dust, small and broken grain. Any waste product generated in this process is re-utilised as livestock feed for our Merino flock, improving the efficiency and sustainability of our operation.

No additives to polish or gloss grains are added, Grain is not interfered with in any way, and is supplied to you in its natural state. Our history of growing seed crops for distribution, has instilled the importance of protocol and procedure, making us confident that we can provide a quality product for your pets!
